The second batch of releases we're seeing from Barrell Craft Spirits in the form of their Stellum catalogue, the 'Black' releases still incorporate IN, KY and TN elements, but focus on containing older and older elements, though there isn't additional info regarding the individual ages. With an allocated rollout and a slightly elevated MSRP ($99.99), there are a lot of questions from consumers about whether it's worth the hunt, so let's dive in.
Bold maple, spice, clove, fat pepper notes and a spicy ginger character. Unabashedly rye.
Rich on the palate, loaded with spearmint, clove, wintergreen, powerful cracked pepper, a touch of honey and light vanilla bean. Savage, powerful, dominating rye.
Long finish, bold, aggressive rye strikes once more. This is like standard Stellum Rye dialed up to 11, it’s a beast.
It's unbelievable how aggressive the rye character is here. It's awesome, but I wouldn't consider this a gateway rye. You're going to need to be a big rye fan to get the most from this particular expression, and if you are a rye fan, you're absolutely going to love it. If you're on the fence about rye, this will either knock you into one camp or the other.
