Stillhouse Moonshine

  • Distiller:

    Undisclosed

  • Bottler:

    Stillhouse

  • ABV:

    40%

  • Age:

    Unaged

  • Price:
    $$$$$
  • Raided Score: 75
  • Publication: Whiskey Raiders
  • Excerpt: Overall, this isn't nearly as offensive as I suspected it might be. There's just something about whiskey from a can found on the bottom shelf to really put the fear of god in you. This...isn't that. I wouldn't advocate that you buy it, but this could be far worse.

  • Excerpt: For what it is, this is not bad; clean, tasty, definitely a good mixer. They have several flavored versions as well.

  • Excerpt: As moonshine, goes, Stillhouse isn’t half bad — but those looking for a more serious, high-test white spirit will find its dainty character a bit at odds with its over-the-top presentation.

  • Intro:

Moonshine from a can. That's what we're working with in today's whiskey review. Moonshine is unaged whiskey, and this is bottled straight to the can, before any sort of aging. Bottled at 40% ABV, the term bottling is a bit nebulous because this comes served up in a metal, gas can, style vessel. Diesel? Whiskey? Automative fluid? This could go any way - let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Mild, not particularly full of character on the nose. Compared to distillate off the still I've smelled and tasted from many distilleries, this is near the bottom, fairly innocuous, but also not offensive.

  • Taste:

Mild on the palate, not a ton of character, heat, flavor or anything. Musty, a touch of corn, sweet cream, faintly grassy.

  • Finish:

Short finish. Thankfully this one whisps away. It's not dreadful, but it's also nice to see it go.

  • Overall:

Overall, this isn't nearly as offensive as I suspected it might be. There's just something about whiskey from a can found on the bottom shelf to really put the fear of god in you. This...isn't that. I wouldn't advocate that you buy it, but this could be far worse.
