Distilled by Takamine, this Japanese whiskey release features the inclusion of Koji — Japanese mold. Let's dig in.
Fresh and sweet, this release has a pop of apple, pear, tropical fruits and some grain and caramel candies on the nose. Light, sweet, effervescent.
Moderate mouthfeel, light and sweet once more. Not in a lacking way, per se, but it's clear this wasn't produced to be a powerful, oily dram. It's light, easy-drinking and packed with honey, peaches, oranges and some apple pie and pear. Faint grain note and a touch of cream.
Moderate finish that's sweet and fruit-driven once again. Touch of spice and honey, light and easy sipping once more.
Overall, this doesn't taste like it's made with special Japanese mold, and that couldn't be anything less than a great endorsement. Light, sweet, easy-drinking and delicately made, this pour is balanced and fruit-driven, hallmarks of a great Japanese whiskey release.
