Teeling Chinkapin Oak

  • Distiller:

    Teeling

  • Bottler:

    Teeling

  • ABV:

    46%

  • Age:

    NAS

  • Price:
    $$$$$
  • Intro:

Distilled by Teeling and matured using a relatively little-known style of oak for this special release, Teeling's really swinging for the fences in illustrating how much depth they work with in the Irish whiskey category. Typically we see wine casks or other sherry expressions, but I'm looking forward to a unique oak all together. Let's dive in!

  • Nose:

Honey, toffee, pecan and buttercream. Sweet, nutty, oaky, lots of character here. Interesting and fun! Lots and lots of cask influence here.

  • Taste:

Sweet and malty, aggressively woody. Honey, maple candies, a touch of peaches, cream and heavy tannin. Peppery, boisterous and full of wood character. Sweet peaches, cinnamon, baking spice and a dollop of fun candied pecan.

  • Finish:

Long finish, this is where the bottling shines greatest. Powerful, full of maple, candied almond, wood spice and a peppery backbone.

  • Overall:

It's hard to deny the uniqueness of this pour, the exotic oak is hard to overlook and honestly, it's a delicious pour from a subset of whiskey that isn't widely known for bold experimentation.

  • Score:

    6
