  • Excerpt: Polished oak finish. It doesn’t have the depth that the classic older Balvenies have shown in the past, but what it does have, it has in spades. Beautiful!

  • Excerpt: The whisky that generated the most conversation, this single-barrel malt was my least favorite of the bunch, a more intensely woody, sea-salty Scotch that felt tough, and less in balance, than its brethren.

  • Excerpt: Entry is intensely oaky and toffee-like, with subtle touches of salt and butterscotch; the midpalate is salty, smoky, mildly peaty and grainy dry.

  • Nose:

Definitely Balvenie. Sweet, doughy, yeasty. Mild citrus. Cinnamon, clove.

  • Taste:

Sweet and cream forward. Lots of nice doughy sweetness, clove, cinnamon, vanilla, butter cream. The slight boost in proof is excellent and makes for a nice mouthfeel.

  • Finish:

Medium, no heat or real roughness. Sweet and kind of one trick but delicious.

  • Overall:

While not exceptionally exciting, its well done and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Too bad it's discontinued. I'm giving this a Rank 6.
