  • Excerpt: Chocolate, spiced orange, pepper, and ginger notes before sweet toffee breaks through, allowing the orange peel-rich marmalade to mingle with the malt. It’s a big mouthful and definitely one to try.

  • Excerpt: It's weighty on the palate, layering caramel with campfire smoke, finishing long on tones of dried fruit, spicy black pepper and clove. Adding water tames the heat and teases out a hint of dried cherry. Matured in Sherry casks.

  • Excerpt: While Naked Grouse isn’t initially an entirely complicated whisky, it does save its greatest tricks for the finish, where ample citrus combines with notes of leather and cloves to elevate the experience into something else entirely.

  • Intro:

This was sampled blind at a local whiskey tasting. After I took down notes, it was revealed to me.

  • Nose:

Apples, pecan, oak and light pepper. Not a ton going on here, but nothing unpleasant is happening, either. Perfectly fine.

  • Taste:

Thin, no heat. Not a ton going on. Lots of apple, light leather, some pecan, and a nice faint sherry component.

  • Finish:

Short, musty and a bit hot.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is just fine. Its not great, the short hot finish kinda kills it in the end, but overall it isn't bad. This gets a solid 5. It works fine neat or in a cocktail, though, and for an easy sipping sherried bottle, it's hard to beat. Especially under $25
