  • Excerpt: The taste is also well-balanced with hints of anise, banana, coconut, apples, and dried peaches. The finish is dry, but not astringent with hints of lemon and cigar smoke on the aromatic finish. Overall, excellent balance and complexity.

  • Excerpt: Diminishing spice and bright rustic apples usher in a rewarding finish. A complex and distinctive recipe, for sure.

  • Excerpt: Certainly a good drop! The body’s frustratingly weakish, though.

  • Excerpt: All told, this drinks heavily like a relatively young single malt Scotch (which shouldn’t be surprising), fresh and enjoyable but often anonymous and lacking a specific direction. Nothing not to like here, though.

  • Excerpt: A quartet of casks (Bourbon, Sherry, Port, Madeira) yield a gentle, mellow sipper, with vanilla on the nose and palate, plus cocoa and dark honey accents.

  • Excerpt: Overall, this particularly premium expression in the Tullamore portfolio isn’t bad, but the complexity I’d hoped for with that kind of age statement and cask maturation just doesn’t show up, leaving this expensive bottling tasting thin and a bit pedestrian.

  • Intro:

Distilled by Tullamore and matured in Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, Port Wine and Madeira wine casks, this release from the Irish distillery shakes the grain component to bear the designation of single malt whiskey.

  • Nose:

Very sweet on the nose. Apple, caramel, cream, peach rings and some cinnamon and nutmeg. Light, sweet. Oak influence is mild, if present at all.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel, but definitely leaning towards the thin side of things. Sweet apples, a hint of cream and caramel. Peach ring candies, light honey and a hint of pear.

  • Finish:

Short finish, a bit hot and pepper forward. A bit hotter on the finish than I’d like, especially given the low proof.

  • Overall:

Overall, this particularly premium expression in the Tullamore portfolio isn’t bad, but the complexity I’d hoped for with that kind of age statement and cask maturation just doesn’t show up, leaving this expensive bottling tasting thin and a bit pedestrian.
