Excerpt: As their shortages continue, if you see a bottle of W.L. Weller 12 Year, grab it. It might not immediately blow you away with gimmicks, but once you familiarize yourself with it, you're likely to become great friends.
Excerpt: Weller 12 is really good whiskey but to me it just comes up short of the lofty heights built up by those that champion the bottle. What I believe is that Weller 12 was much better before the immense strain that the bourbon boom has put on aging whiskey stock.
Excerpt: All in all, W.L. Weller 12 is a classic, flavorful bourbon, even better now than the last time we tasted it. The very best of the Weller barrels essentially go on to become Van Winkle, but I’d honestly be happy if I could just keep a few of these on the bar.
Excerpt: Weller 12 is a good bourbon, it has traditional character of a high wheat mash bill with a good palate but nothing extraordinary. Weller 12 is nowhere close to the complexity of Weller Full Proof, but it can be discussed as a darker and more viscous Weller C.Y.P.B

Sweet malty maple. Almost cloyingly sweet. Fruity brown sugar, molasses and clove.
Mild and muted, sweet and fruity. Strawberries, molasses, clove and brown sugar. Silky mouth feel but wildly sweet. More than a couple ounces of this and Im not sure how Id be feeling with just how sweet this dram is. Must be a result of the wheated mashbill at low proof.
Short to medium. Sweet and creamy. Fruity and sweet. Did I mention how sweet it is?
In one vein, I love W12. Its super mellow, silky, sweet and just an easy dram to enjoy. On the other hand, it's super mellow, sweet and not that interesting. I could easily grow tired of it quickly because it's so so sweet. I also hate that BTAC frenzy has made this bottle almost impossible to find because it just isn't worth it.
