Wheel Horse Bourbon Batch 4

    Wheel Horse

  • ABV:

    50.5%

  • Intro:

Wheel Horse is a bourbon sourced from Green River Distilling in Owensboro, Kentucky. It is bottled by Wheel Horse and its master distiller Jacob Call. It is non-chill filtered. This is the fourth batch. You can typically find this for about $30 or under. It is bottled at 101 proof, which is very reasonable. The early batches were very goo, so I'm looking forward to diving into this, as well.

  • Nose:

The nose is sweet. Sweet caramel, honey, fresh buttered popcorn. There is a light caramel. I wouldn't say it's overly sweet, and there is not a lot of tannin. It is very approachable and very easy to drink with no immediate flaws. Caramel, honey, creme brulee, vanilla bean ice cream. Very sweet, classic bourbon, with light baking spice.

  • Taste:

The palate is rich. It is surprisingly flavorful, full of brown sugar, maple, tobacco and baking spices like clove, nutmeg and a faint prickle of pepper. It is sweet up front and spicy on the back palate. Overall, this is really easy to enjoy and proofed very nicely at 50.5% ABV. The ethanol does not overtake you. This is really easy to drink neat.

  • Finish:

The finish is long and full of maple, with a bit of tobacco, raisin bread and faint cherry. There is a good deal of toffee, waffle cone and cake batter.

  • Overall:

Overall, this whiskey is an incredible value. It's well-made and well-sourced, and I appreciate what the brand continues to do, that they're continuing to roll out new batches of this release. It's easy to find in the right markets, and ultimately, it is a sleeper that I think too few people have heard of, and it's a definite worthwhile buy.
