  • Excerpt: The finish has almost a mulled wine quality to it. The length is long lasting and thought provoking. It's refreshing not to have yet another wine finished whiskey.

  • Excerpt: It honestly tastes more like an 80 or 90 proof rather than over 105. It's so smooth and buttery. There's a medium mouthfeel that lingers and warms.

  • Excerpt: The finish is very long with lingering spices and hints of tropical fruits, toasted coconut, and oak tannins. Unusual taste for a Rye!

  • Excerpt: What then to do with Boss Hog 7? It’s a fun dram on its own, but if your sensibilities will allow it, give it a whirl in an upscale, holiday-themed Manhattan, or use it in a wild spin on a Brandy Alexander. Add plenty of Maraska cherries, for sure. No matter what, though: This is the craziest whiskey I’ve had all year.

  • Excerpt: Absolutely fantastic, without a doubt the best Boss Hog that has crossed this desk so far. Initially concerned it would be too busy, too disjointed, perhaps a bit too vivacious. Rest easy, this is none of those things and masterfully composed.

  • Intro:

Distilled in Canada, shipped to Vermont, then shipped to Spain, then shipped to Brazil, then shipped back to Vermont: Whistle Pig Magellan's Adventure is the 7th chapter in the Boss Hog book. A barrel proof rye whiskey that's finished on Spanish Oak staves and then in Brazilian Teakwood, Boss Hog VII is one of the most interesting cask experiments seen to date. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Big boisterous, sandalwood, apple, pear, spice and gumdrop. The nose is spicy, effervescent, lightly fruity and loaded with rye character.

  • Taste:

Lovely and complex, perhaps the best Boss Hog I’ve ever had. Caramel, pepper, orange peel. Aromatic and fruit forward on the palate. Incredibly packed with character, there's so much going on and all of it has a place.

  • Finish:

Long floral finish with notes of sandalwood, honey, clove, maple and big rye spice.

  • Overall:

Absolutely fantastic, without a doubt the best Boss Hog that has crossed this desk so far. Initially concerned it would be too busy, too disjointed, perhaps a bit too vivacious. Rest easy, this is none of those things and masterfully composed.
